The National Federation of the Blind administers several programs that provide free or low-cost items to blind people across the country. Explore our programming below.

Free White Cane Program

We provide a free white cane to any blind individual in the fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico who request a cane for their personal use. White canes enable blind people to travel safely and independently. No blind person should be without a white cane, regardless of their ability to pay for it.

Hear a testimonial from Donald, who explains how much a white cane has helped him travel independently:

"These canes have been very helpful in getting me out 3 or 5 times a week, normally 2 miles. And I thank the Federation very much for this blessing," - Donald

Free Slate and Stylus Program

We offer a free slate and stylus, a portable tool that blind children and adults can use to write Braille for taking notes, labeling items, and more. These are intended for blind or low vision people who know or want to learn Braille.
